Krakatau POSCO is a company or a steel industry in Indonesia, which is a joint venture company between PT. Krakatau Steel; the largest steel industry in Indonesia and POSCO (Pohang Steel Company); the biggest steel industry in South Korea. In the early stages, the percentage ownership of PT. Krakatau Steel is 30% and 70% of Posco. Furthermore, the percentage ownership of Indonesia (in this case PT. Krakatau Steel) will be increased to 45% and 55% of Posco. Location establishment of the steel industry is in the city of Cilegon; Banten, Indonesia in the section of west coast overlooking the Sunda Strait sea (Sunda Strait Coast). Construction of this steel industry to be important for Indonesia; therefore increase national steel production is also foster public confidence in the international economic situation and investment in Indonesia.

Krakatau POSCO will build a facility of Blast Furnace to process iron ore into pig iron, Steel Making and Steel Rolling Mill to produce steel semifinish product. Krakatau POSCO will be directed to seize opportunity steel plate market that until now has not been met. And the opportunities this market segment will continue to evolve with the growth of downstream industries that use raw materials of steel plate. In the early stages of Krakatoa Posco will build a facility with a capacity of 3 million tons of steel, and will further be increased to 6 million tons of steel per year. This capacity is still far below the domestic demand for steel continues to increase over time.

Establishment of joint venture Krakatau POSCO will have a positive impact for PT. Krakatu Steel and its subsidiaries. As it is known that some of the subsidiary of PT. Such as PT Krakatau Steel. Krakatoa Power in charge of production of electrical energy, and PT. Krakatau Tirta Industry in charge of water production for the industry will increase its capacity to meet the needs of Krakatoa Posco. Similarly with the other subsidiaries in charge of Information Technology, Ports, etc.. Posco has to balance the needs of Krakatoa. And then PT Krakatau Steel in cooperation with PT. Aneka Tambang also develop iron ore processing plant in South Kalimantan; namely PT. Meratus Jaya Iron and Steel (MJIS) to offset the need for iron ore raw materials for the steel industry.

With the Krakatau POSCO steel plant establishment then it will improve the position and strength of PT. Krakatau Steel as the largest steel industry in Indonesia. Another benefit of the plant establishment will also be felt by the employees and the communities around Cilegon, Banten, and society in general.
