Pongdut stands for Jaipongan and Dangdut; an art vocal music accompanied by traditional drums (Kendang) that derived from Dangdut mixed with Jaipongan dance, but generally is dominated by traditional drums (Kendang) and electric guitar instrument or organ. Jaipongan actually is the art of dance to the accompaniment of music from stomping traditional drums, dominated by the movement of his trademark energetic dancers who shimmy body and plays the hand movements. While Dangdut is a kind of musical and vocal art in Indonesia, also known as Melayu music and dance in the movement known as Goyanng Dangdut (Dangdut rocking).

Pongdut art highly favored by the Sundanese (West Java), but because the song is sung has a typical Sundanese also movements that mimic movements Jaipong singer and Dangdut. In addition Pongdut art more interactive; the audience and ask a specific song to be sung, and even allowed to go up onstage and danced with singers. Participating audience dancing on stage will usually give some money to the singers, and the term is called Nyawer. Some fans have the satisfaction Pongdut when able to do Nyawer repeatedly.

Pongdut usually exhibited to the public freely without restrictions of age and free of charge. Pongdut shows are generally held on the Wedding event, big event days, art show or special event. In Pangandaran tourist areas sometimes also held Pongdut at the folk arts event, and foreign tourists usually come into play to dance on stage. This illustrates that Pongdut also favored by foreign. The artists of Ponmgdut usually consists of female singers, some of the personnel who hold the instruments, and personnel responsible for the sound system.

When we would watch the show of Pongdut there be some things that must be considered in relation to safety; for example, avoid contact with fans that look drunk, or dancing while drunk. Some fans of Pongdut sometimes appear intoxicated due to alcohol, and usually they tend to be aggressive. We also should avoid dominating doing Nyawer to the singer at the time, because it can lead to envy for other fans, and if not controlled could end in fights. A number of security officers are usually prepared to maintain safety of Pongdut show, especially if-hosted in the evening and night.
